Każdego roku na całym świecie w okresie przedświątecznym odbywają się jarmarki bożonarodzeniowe. Są idealnym  miejscem dla osób chcących poczuć magię zbliżających się świąt. Tradycja jarmarków wywodzi się z Niemiec i cieszy się w tym kraju ogromną  popularnością, zarówno wśród mieszkańców jak i turystów. Podczas pobytu stypendialnego u naszych zachodnich sąsiadów miałyśmy okazję odwiedzić jarmarki w kilku miastach. W tym poście zaprezentujemy Wam jarmark bożonarodzeniowy (niem. Weihnachtsmarkt) w Moguncji, stolicy Nadrenii-Palatynatu.

Christmas markets are held every year around the world during the holiday season. They are perfect for people who want to feel the magic of the upcoming Christmas. The tradition of fairs comes from Germany and enjoys the country's enormous popularity among both locals and tourists. While our student's scholarship in Germany we had the opportunity to visit fairs in several cities. In this post we will present you a Christmas market (germ. Weihnachtsmarkt) in Mainz, the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Weihnachtsmarkt w Moguncji odbywa się na placu przy Katedrze Świętych Marcina i Szczepana.

Christmas Market in Mainz takes place on the square near the St. Martin's Cathedral.

Świątecznie przystrojone drewniane stragany i wiszące nad nimi światełka rozświetlają moguncki rynek. Można tu znaleźć wszelkiego rodzaju upominki i niemieckie przysmaki.

Festively adorned wooden stalls and the lights hanging over them, illuminate the market of Mainz. You can find there all kinds of gifts and German delicacies.

 

Niewątpliwym rarytasem jarmarków jest grzane  wino, znane w Niemczech pod nazwą Glühwein. Oczywiście niezabraknie też innych gorących napojów, takich jak gorąca czekolada czy herbata, ale to własnie Glühwein już zawsze kojarzyć mi się będzie z niemieckim jarmarkiem świątecznym.

Unquestionable drink from german christmas markets is a mulled wine, known in Germany as Glühwein. Of course you can find there also other hot beverages such as hot chocolate or tea, but for me it will be the Glühwein which associate with the German christmas' fair season.

A tak wygląda bożonarodzeniowa piramida (Weihnachtspyramide) w Moguncji. 

And it looks like Christmas pyramid (Weihnachtspyramide) in Mainz.

Jest to drewniana konstrukcja ze świecami w formie karuzeli. Na jej kondygnacjach poruszają się kolorowe figurki nawiązujące do świąt i historii regionu. Unoszące się od świec ciepłe powietrze napędza skrzydło piramidy, które wprowadza ją w ruch.

It's a wooden construction with candles and has the form of a carousel. There are moving colored figures referring to the holidays and history of the region inside of it.

                                    

     

Przed katedrą ustawiona jest szopka bożonarodzeniowa z rzeźbionymi figurkami Świętej Rodziny, pasterzy i Trzech Mędrców.

In front of the Cathedral you can see the nativity scene with figures of the Holy Family. 

 Po drugiej stronie rynku możemy zobaczyć zegar z pozytywką z 18 figurami aniołów.

On the other side of the market you can see a clock with music and the 18 statues of angels.

 Nie brakuje też atrakcji dla najmłodszych. / There are also attractions for children.

W pobliżu dworca kolejowego, także znajdują się drewniane stragany z upominkami i jedzeniem.

Near the train station, also there are wooden stalls with souvenirs and food.

 

Niemieckie jarmarki znane są na całym świecie. Trwają przez cały okres adwentu i tworzą niesamowitą atmosferę nawiązującą do Świąt Bożego Narodzenia.

German fairs are known throughout the world. They last for the entire period of Advent and create an amazing Christmas atmosphere.
